Google Cloud and Central Dutch Government Sign Workspace Agreement

Google Cloud said today that it has secured a new arrangement with the Central Dutch Government, allowing the Dutch government to use Google Workspace's suite of tools and services. This new arrangement, which follows the Google Workspace for Education agreement inked last year, would enable Central Dutch public sector enterprises, such as government departments, to adopt multi-cloud more easily.

The new agreement's goal is to make it easier and more efficient for Central Dutch government agencies to use the entire suite of Google Workspace tools under pre-negotiated terms. Organizations will be able to fully utilize various technologies, including industry-leading products like Chat, Docs, Meet, and Sheets, to serve Dutch residents better and enable new hybrid-working environments.

"This is a milestone for Google Cloud's relationship with the Central Dutch Government, as we see the results of the DPIAs come to fruition. We've designed Google Workspace products and solutions, including Google Workspace for Education, to secure and protect the privacy of our customers' data. Our tools will empower the Dutch public sector, while adhering to strict security and privacy requirements. We are also looking forward to supporting greater choice and flexibility for public sector entities and are already doing so for education institutions across the Netherlands, providing access to innovative solutions, with cutting-edge security and greater resiliency,"

JorisSchoonis, managing director Benelux, Google Cloud.

In 2020, the Dutch Central Government began a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) on Google Workspace, and representatives from the Dutch education sector began a DPIA on Google Workspace for Education, which is a standard step when such organizations are considering to purchase new technology. DPIAs aid firms in better understanding how they process and secure personal data, as well as defining GDPR compliance limits. The Central Dutch Government, Dutch education sector organizations/institutions, and Google Cloud reached an agreement as a consequence of this process and will continue to collaborate on the DPIA recommendations.

This deal marks a new chapter in the Central Dutch Government's, Dutch public sector entities', and Google Cloud's long-standing partnership.
