Google Launches Cloud Fleet Routing API and Last Mile Fleet Solution

Google announced the debut of Google Maps Platform's Last Mile Fleet Solution and Google Cloud's Cloud Fleet Routing API, two new technologies designed to help fleet operators enhance the delivery success and fleet performance.

Logistics organizations and retailers can create extraordinary delivery experiences for customers, drivers, and fleet managers by combining hyper-local insights from Google Maps with analytics and scale from Google Cloud.

Consumer expectations for delivery speed and visibility have reached an all-time high as a result of the pandemic, which has increased e-commerce usage and stressed supply networks. At the same time, it is estimated that last-mile delivery accounts for more than half of total transportation expenses. As a result, last-mile fleet operators will have to work harder to improve customer experiences and operations. Through an integrated suite of mapping, routing, and analytics capabilities, the Last Mile Fleet Solution and Cloud Fleet Routing API assist fleet operators in addressing these difficulties.

The pandemic further accelerated both e-commerce and the number of deliveries, which were already growing rapidly. The increased strain on delivery networks, plus many other factors like driver shortages, poor address data, factory closures, and an increase in fuel prices have impacted delivery time and success. With Google Maps Platform's Last Mile Fleet Solution and Cloud Fleet Routing API, we're making it easier for delivery fleet operators to address these issues and create seamless experiences for consumers, drivers, and fleet managers."

The Cloud Fleet Routing API focuses on the delivery route planning phase. It allows operators to execute advanced fleet-wide optimization, such as determining package allocation to delivery vans and delivery task sequencing. Cloud Fleet Routing API, natively integrated with Google Maps routes data, can solve simple route planning queries in near-real-time and scale to the most demanding workloads due to parallelized request batching. Customers can define several limitations over this spectrum, including periods, package weights, and vehicle capacities. Cloud Fleet Routing is built on the industry's cleanest cloud, and it may assist carriers in reaching sustainability goals by lowering distance traveled, the number of delivery vehicles, and CO2 emissions from the computation.
