Artificial Intelligence: Applying Calculus to Advance Neuron Network Calculations

Calculus ruled for hundreds of years after it was introduced in the seventeen century as a primary tool for explaining physics and the world around us. But, while math remains important, it has taken a back seat over the last few decades to numerical analysis and computations. One example is Finite Element Analysis, a numerical technique that simulates the stresses and strains and interactions of highly complex objects. The boundary conditions and geometries of physical things are typically too complex and too difficult to capture into a single or even a few equations. On the other hand, the numerical analysis of Finite Elements breaks problems down into hundreds or thousands of smaller pieces and individually solves the physics for each of the small more-regularly shaped subcomponents and then determines how the systems of pieces interact with each other. There are many smaller problems to solve, but the problems are much easier to solve. Finite Elements offers a consistent and reliable methodology for solving problems without requiring a deep understanding of math.

Are Manufacturing Companies in Danger of Implementing a Fake Cloud ERP Solution?

Article | April 6, 2021

When it comes to growing your manufacturing business, speed is the name of the game. When technology capabilities increase, customer expectations tend to increase at an even faster rate. Customers now assume that key team members working anywhere will have complete project information at their fingertips. Not with a fake cloud ERP solution. Your bottom line depends on your ability to exploit new business opportunities before your competitors do. Consider why a cloud system is needed to deal with this challenge: Every decision you make on the shop floor or in the field is closely tied to accounting—and every accounting decision requires heavy input from the shop floor, sales, and service departments. Wherever your employees are working, they need speedy access to all the information that’s relevant to the decision at hand.

Five trends affecting the adoption of cloud today

Article | March 30, 2020

Cloud computing is firmly established as the new normal for enterprise IT. Across industries such as manufacturing and automotive, cloud continues to be one of the fastest-growing segments of IT spend. With greater spend, however, comes greater responsibility for CIOs to invest budgets wisely, and a bigger impact if things go wrong.CIOs looking to prepare their organisation to succeed in the upcoming turns must take a differentiated approach to cloud computing. It will be essential for CIOs to develop a formal strategy that helps to put individual cloud decisions in the context of the enterprise’s strategic goals.

CEO Perspective: Are You Ready for the Cloud

Article | March 31, 2020

It may be obvious, but I have to say the cloud -- particularly a cloud data analytics stack. It is the only way for companies to efficiently and effectively combine data from all the myriad sources and analyze it together. Cloud data warehouses (CDWs) are experiencing incredible traction, and I believe we will continue to see a sharp trajectory for them and the various technologies associated with them, from the pipeline funneling all the data into the CDW to the cloud analytics and business intelligence (BI) software that enables you to access and analyze the data in real-time (like Sigma, the company I lead).CDWs have taken off for a number of reasons: scalability, flexibility, lower costs, and connectivity, which are benefits presented by most cloud technologies. Furthermore, by storing all data in one place, organizations don't have to deal with the complexity of searching various discrete business systems and data stores to locate the relevant data.
