"We're at the beginning, but creating open standards and open source in cloud computing will really open up the ecosystems and create a tremendous growth in these ecosystems as well as innovation. If you look at the way applications are being developed on cloud, in particular mobile, social, big data analytics, you begin to recognize that there's patterns emerging where developers are starting to or compose an environment to be able to choose the development tools, application tools, database -- data persistence tools and to be able to basically compose that environment and then rapidly develop an application and iterate in-field with customers to see -- are they hitting the milestones, are they hitting their objectives and iterate and iterate. The next layer down, this composition of services are really running on cloud infrastructures -- things like database systems, web application systems, analytic systems, as well as some of these persistence models and application models. When IT or Procurement departments get involved, the end-users already have been using the product actively, making the sale of enterprise plans a lot smoother and faster.

VMware Cloud Foundation 4: Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure for Modern Apps

Article | March 27, 2020

Now, we at DSA are amazed by VMware’s new releases. At the same time, while we feel the concept is great, we don’t understand if you run VMware on public cloud, is the cost higher than simply running on the public cloud like AWS’ native virtual machines?According to VMware’s Sanjay K. Deshmukh, Vice President and Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Korea, “If you look at a total cost of ownership for a customer to run or to migrate an existing application to cloud and you compare that in situations where they run it on native cloud and VMware cloud (VMware cloud running on AWS or any provider), when you compare this two, we have seen our customers able to reduce their total cost of ownership to the upwards of about 25 to 30%.To be specific, Sanjay said the savings are, they don’t have to re-platform any of their applications in order to run in the cloud. Customers on their journey of application modernisation or moving applications to cloud will find that the amount of effort cost and energy they are saving in re-platforming and rearchitecting their applications to the cloud is massive. The costs are upward of a million-dollar per applications or more depending on the complexity of the application.

NetFoundry Extends Edge Computing and Private 5G Use Cases via Integration with Azure Edge Zones

Article | April 2, 2020

NetFoundry has announced a new embedded networking solution within Microsoft Azure Edge Zones. According to NetFoundry, the integration will allow businesses to easily and securely tap into the power of edge compute and optional private 5G for use cases, including industrial IoT, near-real time video processing, and analytics.Microsoft Azure Private Edge Zones enable application workloads to span edges and clouds with a common Azure experience, APIs, and security. NetFoundry's integration facilitates direct connections between businesses and Azure Private Edge Zones without deploying extra network gear. This capability is particularly important at edge sites that often lack space, power, and cooling. With the NetFoundry embedded networking solution, all applications, from edge to cloud, can use any Internet connection, instantly joining a NetFoundry-powered zero trust, high-performance network. Zero trust security is an industry-accepted architecture that assumes "zero trust" of actors and protocols both outside and inside an organization. The NetFoundry platform enables businesses to securely and reliably connect distributed compute environments, providing zero trust, high-performance networking as a service (NaaS) from edge to cloud, and everywhere in between.
