Mobile workspaces go where you go

Mobility is more than a product, a tool, or an individual piece of tehnology. It is a ubiquitous work style that transcends legacy IT by delivering apps, desktops, files, and services seamlessly to any user, on any device, over any network. There is no single technology for mobile computing. Rather it is combination of virtualization, mobility, networking and cloud technology.

VMware Cloud Foundation 4: Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure for Modern Apps

Article | March 27, 2020

Now, we at DSA are amazed by VMware’s new releases. At the same time, while we feel the concept is great, we don’t understand if you run VMware on public cloud, is the cost higher than simply running on the public cloud like AWS’ native virtual machines?According to VMware’s Sanjay K. Deshmukh, Vice President and Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Korea, “If you look at a total cost of ownership for a customer to run or to migrate an existing application to cloud and you compare that in situations where they run it on native cloud and VMware cloud (VMware cloud running on AWS or any provider), when you compare this two, we have seen our customers able to reduce their total cost of ownership to the upwards of about 25 to 30%.To be specific, Sanjay said the savings are, they don’t have to re-platform any of their applications in order to run in the cloud. Customers on their journey of application modernisation or moving applications to cloud will find that the amount of effort cost and energy they are saving in re-platforming and rearchitecting their applications to the cloud is massive. The costs are upward of a million-dollar per applications or more depending on the complexity of the application.

Palo Alto Networks Advances DevSecOps in the Cloud

Article | April 7, 2020

New capabilities include the ability to define and apply cybersecurity policies to continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) workflows and scanning tools for discovering misconfigurations in cloud infrastructure templates, which is the most common source of cloud security issues.Palo Alto Networks has also added the ability to scan virtual machines native to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) before they are deployed as well as an ability to apply policies to workloads running on the AWS Lambda serverless computing framework via a single click. That capability eliminates the need to manually install wrappers in application code running on the AWS Lambda framework.

How 5G will change cloud computing

Article | February 12, 2020

A technology that has more misinformation around it than anything I have seen before. Much of this bad data is focused on cloud computing. The reality is that it will take a while to roll out 5G. We need to upgrade our phones, cell towers, network devices, and more, and that will not happen overnight. Moreover, the dollars it will require will not be easily extracted from most enterprises.Of course, there are many predictions about how cloud computing will change in a 5G world, most of which are dead wrong. Tech pundits are calling for 5G to light edge computing on fire and take share away from the public clouds. Both will grow rapidly.Any technology change, including 5G, will transform the use of other technologies along with cloud computing. However, what is likely to change is not as disruptive as most 5G fanboys think. Here are two ways 5G will change cloud computing.First, cloud access will spread everywhere. We have bandwidth deserts out there in mostly rural, less populated areas, where access to the Internet is non-existent or sub-10Gb/s down, with 1Gb/s up. You cannot do much with that as a business connected to an IaaS cloud provider; data transfer latency will just be too high. 5G holds the promise of eliminating bandwidth deserts and freeing business now in rural, underserved areas to leverage cloud computing, and thus expand the cloud computing market with 5G.

VMware Boosts Hybrid-Cloud Visibility, Management

Article | April 14, 2020

VMware pushed its operations management tool to the cloud with a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) form factor and newly added hybrid cloud support for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and vSphere Kubernetes deployments in addition to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.vRealize Operations is VMware’s on-premises software product that provides operations management across applications, infrastructure, and clouds. The new vRealize Operations Cloud, which is generally available today, has the same user interface and features as the on-premises version. “It offers everything you can do with vRealize operations on prem,” said Taruna Gandhi, VP of product marketing for cloud management at VMware. This includes “performance optimization, which includes fully automated workload balancing and placement” based on business and operational intent, she added. The product also helps enterprises better manage costs and improve efficiency by making recommendations about procurement and rightsizing workloads. Both versions use artificial intelligence (AI) for troubleshooting predicting and preventing issues across customers’ hybrid and multi-cloud environments, Gandhi said. And it continually scans these environments to enforce IT and regulatory standards around configuration and compliance, and automatically remediates any problems.
