As enterprise IT organizations evaluate cloud-based services, security can be a primary concern — both in terms of the security of the customer data associated with the application as well as the potential for breaches of the customer’s IT environment. Zenoss takes a comprehensive approach to SaaS security, addressing it from both a product and process perspective, to ensure the integrity of monitoring operations. The Zenoss approach to SaaS security begins with the cloud hosting platform. Google Cloud has become one of the most secure cloud platforms available due to its broad compliance with common industry security certifications, including various ISO and SOC standards. Zenoss Cloud benefits directly from the advanced security features that make these certifications possible. It uses Google’s platform features to ensure that user data is always protected, in flight or at rest. And it benefits from constant monitoring by the Google security team to ensure that critical infrastructure assets are always available and never compromised.

With the huge amounts of data in all fields, a future in the cloud is imperative to help deal with this explosion of data, especially in the field of intelligence technology. This is the reason why the US Central Intelligence Agency is updating its cloud technology. The agency has recently released a draft request for proposal for its Commercial Cloud Enterprise contract. The C2E tens of billions contract will be a multi-award commercial cloud computing contract with a five-year base period and two five-year options for a period of performance of up to 15 years, according to nextgov.com.In a March 2019 presentation by the Directorate of Digital Innovation, a division of the CIA, the department outlined its vision for C2E. It would be broad and include infrastructure, platform and software cloud services supporting a broad range of users, with a variety of security clearances and a worldwide presence, as reported by techcrunch.com. The principal C2E Program objective is to acquire cloud computing services directly from commercial cloud service providers with established records for innovation and operational excellence in cloud service delivery for a large customer base, the department stated in the presentation.Apparently, the agency prefers to avoid all the attention that the Pentagon’s JEDI cloud procurement process got, and quietly go about its business.

How 5G will change cloud computing

Article | February 12, 2020

A technology that has more misinformation around it than anything I have seen before. Much of this bad data is focused on cloud computing. The reality is that it will take a while to roll out 5G. We need to upgrade our phones, cell towers, network devices, and more, and that will not happen overnight. Moreover, the dollars it will require will not be easily extracted from most enterprises.Of course, there are many predictions about how cloud computing will change in a 5G world, most of which are dead wrong. Tech pundits are calling for 5G to light edge computing on fire and take share away from the public clouds. Both will grow rapidly.Any technology change, including 5G, will transform the use of other technologies along with cloud computing. However, what is likely to change is not as disruptive as most 5G fanboys think. Here are two ways 5G will change cloud computing.First, cloud access will spread everywhere. We have bandwidth deserts out there in mostly rural, less populated areas, where access to the Internet is non-existent or sub-10Gb/s down, with 1Gb/s up. You cannot do much with that as a business connected to an IaaS cloud provider; data transfer latency will just be too high. 5G holds the promise of eliminating bandwidth deserts and freeing business now in rural, underserved areas to leverage cloud computing, and thus expand the cloud computing market with 5G.
