AWS tags US$235 million to expand its cloud infrastructure in Latin America

Article | February 10, 2020

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is raising its stake on cloud computing infrastructure in Latin America. Proof of this is that the IT company will use R$1 billion (around US$235 million) to expand its data center in Sao Paulo. These millions will be used for its Data Processing Center located in that part of Brazil. In addition, a portion of these US$235 million will also be used to increase the services it offers to both public and private parties. The move gives reason to suggest that AWS is upping the ante in the future of startups and tech in the region that rely on cloud services to develop their own products. It launched its cloud center in Brazil in 2011 but it’ll be getting some beefing up thanks to these funds. Moreover, AWS has two Edge networks in São Paulo and two in Rio de Janeiro. As well as one in each of the following cities: Bogotá (Colombia), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Santiago (Chile). The objective of all of this is to be the region’s prime provider of cloud infrastructure and beat out its competition AKA, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft’s Azure.

Discovering Kubernetes-Ready Solutions for Cloud Native Applications

Article | June 7, 2021

The way we architect and build applications has changed over the last decade or so. Where monoliths (or single, large codebases) used to be the standard, modern applications are now built using a combination of new architecture patterns, operational models, and software delivery services. By shifting to a microservices architecture, teams can more easily update, replace, and innovate on small, modular codebases—driving faster business innovation while reducing risk, time to market, and total cost of ownership. This modular microservices approach has spurred the use of containers as a lightweight, portable solution to the infrastructure needs garnered by these loosely coupled services. As such, containers have largely become the centerpiece of automation and DevOps in the enterprise. This gives teams the ability to capitalize on the flexibility and scalability offered by the use of containers, but it also means more moving parts and more perimeters to manage. Kubernetes has emerged as the gold standard for handling container orchestration.

Today, almost every company across diverse industries leverage some kind of cloud infrastructure for efficient business. Cloud computing now has become mainstream as most organizations’ IT ecosystems adopt public and private cloud, alongside traditional IT practices. Moreover, many businesses also believe the hybrid cloud environment will assist them in addressing the challenges of these distinct infrastructures. As a wide array of cloud offerings available in the market, companies are often left besieged with conflicting pressures, ranging from cost management and security to vendor lock-in concerns. However, easing these challenges requires a grave step that several organizations are investing in when they plan for cloud adoption and that is a robust cloud governance model based on a wary assessment of long-term needs. Many businesses around the world are now realizing the importance of a multi-cloud strategy, and its demand is increasing rapidly. In a 2017 State of the SaaS-Powered Workplace report, companies use an average of 16 Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) apps, where 73 percent of businesses believed over 80 percent of their apps will be SaaS by 2020.
