Tetrate Named 2021 Cool Vendor in Cloud Computing by Gartner

Tetrate | November 11, 2021

Tetrate, the company founded by creators and maintainers of Istio and Envoy, announced it has been recognized as one of the 2021 Cool Vendors in Cloud Computing by Gartner. The Gartner report highlights innovative multicloud products and vendors that CIOs should assess in formulating their multicloud strategy. “We are honored to have received the Cool Vendor recognition from Gartner. It’s a milestone in our journey and a validation of the directional correctness of Tetrate Service Bridge TSB enables and accelerates cloud adoption and modernization for enterprises. It’s a humbling experience to build a product that strives to meet the needs of enterprise customers.” Varun Talwar, co-founder of Tetrate and co-creator of Istio and gRPC Key findings stated in the report include: Seventy-six percent of respondents to Gartner’s 2020 Cloud End-User Buying Behavior Survey that have adopted cloud infrastructure intend to operate in a multicloud environment. The primary reasons are to increase service availability, to leverage best-of-breed services across providers and to comply with compliance requirements across the globe. Real-world multicloud implementations are mired with architectural complexity, unclear total cost of ownership (TCO) and uneven governance due to inadequate planning and lack of a deliberate strategy. There is a new, emerging breed of startups with a cloud-first product mindset and multicloud product capabilities that are focused on easing multicloud adoption challenges. Tetrate was selected as a Cool Vendor because it provides a service mesh solution across multicloud environments to deliver comprehensive application connectivity, security, observability, and reliability—all from one platform layer. Its market differentiation, the report finds, stems from its unified mesh capabilities, multicloud support, flexible operational model, and commitment to open source. Flexify.IO Consolidates Multiple Cloud Storage Providers to a Single Bucket

Flexify.IO | July 07, 2021

Flexify.IO offers cloud storage virtualization and migration software, which provides customers cloud-agnostic object-based data storage. In addition, it enables and streamlines migration and avoids dependency on a single cloud storage provider. The concept is simple. An application reads/writes data from/to a virtual S3 bucket. Further, the original data is stored in a physical bucket in any of more than 20 storage locations, including Microsoft Azure Blob, Backblaze B2, Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3, Dataline, Dell EMC ECS, DigitalOcean, Dropbox, Exoscale, Google Cloud, Linode, Mail.ru Cloud, MinIO, OVH, Wasabi, and Yandex Cloud. Flexify’s software identifies the physical storage location and carries out API-based storage IO using connector modules to address the read and write requests. However, file or block storage is not supported. Data migration between these cloud service providers (CSPs) and on-premises storage locations, avoiding CSP lock-in, can effectively occur. Specifically, Flexify visibly converts the S3 API to the Azure Blob API, and thus, there is no need to convert S3-compatible applications to the applications that are Azure Blob-compatible. It likewise translates between the S3-compatible API and Alibaba OSS APIs. Further, data can be divided across multiple locations and presented as a single (virtual) bucket. In addition, the data migration can also take place between these locations, with Flexify’s code addressing the errors and avoiding downtime during a migration. Multiple Flexify instances (stateless engines) can be utilized in a migration procedure with a supposed slot-based distribution system that quickens the data transfer process. There are no egress fees are payable under the following conditions: Migrating from Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to Amazon S3 region on the same continent; Migrating from Amazon Web Services or GCP to Azure region on the same continent; Migrating from Azure, GCP, or Amazon Web Services of North American regions to Backblaze B2 US/ European regions to Backblaze B2 EU; Migrating from Amazon Web Services S3 US- regions to Backblaze B2 US or from Amazon S3 EU- provinces to Backblaze B2 EU; Migrating from Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services to the GCP region on the same continent. Management console Flexify offers a management console that includes a migration wizard. In addition, the speed of data access speed is improved by an asynchronous transfer design. In this design, the object access starts before Flexify has fetched a whole object. The company says: “With appropriate regions configuration, you can expect a delay lesser than a few milliseconds.”Flexify.io is a multi-user management console, which supports customers who want to manage multiple departments and users on Flexify.IO through a centralized administrator. Flexify.IO is available as a cloud service managed by Flexify. Further, it can be installed privately in a customer’s cloud or on-premises. The cloud-native Flexify app is available in the Azure and Digital Ocean marketplaces. Additionally, a Community Edition can be downloaded from the Docker Hub. The Community Edition is not scalable and is limited to a single machine. On the other hand, the core edition is horizontally scalable, with centralized management of geographically spread engines. About Flexify Flexify.IO was established in June 2015 by CTO Sergey Kandaurov and Corporate President & CEO Sergey Smirnov in Nizhniy Novgorod, Nizhegorod, Russian Federation. It upstretched an undisclosed amount of funding in May 2018. It has an office in St Petersburg, Florida, and the head of development, Alexander Bondin, is located in Novgorod, Russia, and Kandaurov is based in the Philippines. Flexify’s future development plans include adding support for smaller cloud providers, storage of unstructured data in blockchain, and addressing near-real-time continuous synchronisation of two or more data stores.
