Cloud computing, at its simplest, relates to providing services over the internet in a way that gives the perception of limitless scalability where those services are not tied to a particular server or location. Cloud based services usually remove the necessity for organisations to invest in infrastructure up-front, and can enable the customer to scale its use of services up and down as demand fluctuates. Cloud services are particularly well suited to customers with variable or unpredictable demand, and economies of scale achieved by some cloud vendors provide compelling economic incentives for use of the cloud services or infrastructure

Gurucul Next-Gen SIEM and XDR Lead Industry with Innovative Poly-Cloud and Multi-Cloud Offering

Gurucul | August 12, 2022

Black Hat USA--Gurucul, a leader in Next-Gen SIEM, XDR, UEBA, and Identity and Access Analytics, today announced advanced Poly-Cloud architecture support, enhanced multi-cloud deployments, and cross-cloud detection and response across all common cloud stacks including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. See it on display at the Black Hat USA Conference in booth #1568 and enter to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Gurucul supports best of breed cross-cloud services for improved user experience, flexibility, availability, and reduced cost for faster detection and response and blazing fast searches for better threat hunting. Gurucul’s poly-cloud support allows organizations to be cloud-agnostic without any lock-in with a cloud service provider, facilitating AWS, Google, Azure, and private clouds to operate concurrently. Gurucul has advanced its multi-cloud capabilities across all major cloud providers by providing a unified view of security and risk across multiple cloud environments. Customers now reap all the benefits of SaaS with their own cloud infrastructure irrespective of the provider. In addition to deployment support, these new cross-cloud capabilities provide correlation, advanced linking, and behavior baselines on access and activity across cloud environments. New out-of-the-box threat content and risk scoring provide detection and automated response to advanced hybrid and multi-cloud distributed attacks. This enables organizations to go beyond just hunting for isolated threats, such as malware at a cloud endpoint, identifying the entire scope of the attack campaign across multi-cloud workloads, lowering mean-time-to-detect (MTTD) and mean-time-to-respond (MTTR). Gurucul’s multi-cloud threat detection capabilities sit natively within public/private cloud environments with no reduction in capabilities. Gurucul collects, ingests, and enriches data from multi-cloud deployments at massive scale, ensuring performance and providing real-time, end-to-end visibility and context. In addition, Gurucul’s cloud analytics and out-of-the-box threat content include context from traditional security solutions, such as network and endpoint, immediately helping security operations teams identify cloud security issues, including distributed multi-cloud attack campaigns. This goes well beyond other solutions that only find isolated threats in the cloud or simply correlate isolated threat activity forcing already burdened SOC staff to manually investigate and determine if an attack campaign is underway. “As we have seen new attacks, such as multi-RAT campaigns, increasingly embed themselves across multiple cloud services, threat actors are able to evade current SIEM and XDR solutions, Furthermore, most security vendors have simply ‘lifted and shifted’ their on-prem solutions into the cloud in order to provide a SaaS solution that is locked into a single vendor, severely limiting their ability to be effective across multiple cloud service providers, making it very difficult for organizations to reduce their attack exposure while meeting digital transformation objectives.” Nilesh Dherange, CTO of Gurucul “Organizations worldwide are facing sophisticated ransomware attacks on the digital supply chain and deeply embedded vulnerabilities,” said Peter Firstbrook, research vice president at Gartner. “The pandemic accelerated hybrid work and the shift to the cloud, challenging CISOs to secure an increasingly distributed enterprise – all while dealing with a shortage of skilled security staff.” Gurucul significantly reduces infrastructure, operations, and software licensing cost overhead, and provides a single-pane-of-glass with 360-degree context across enterprise, hybrid and multi-cloud environments for correlation, threat detection, threat hunting, investigations, and incident response. The solution also simplifies data and network architecture by reducing integration points, data hops and bandwidth requirements. Its playbook management and risk aggregation capabilities can be used to trigger appropriate remediation actions such as blocking network traffic, isolating cloud workloads and devices, enforcing step-up authentication, blocking USB access, and disabling user accounts on SaaS, IaaS and PaaS. The Gurucul cloud-native Security Analytics and Operations Platform includes Next-Generation SIEM, with its debut as a Strong Visionary in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for SIEM, XDR, UEBA and Identity & Access Analytics. By generating contextual, risk-prioritized alerts in real-time, Gurucul’s security operations solution accelerates security teams’ ability to mitigate threats before damage occurs through automated response actions. Availability and Pricing Gurucul’s poly-cloud and multi-cloud advancements along with cross-cloud threat detection capabilities are available immediately from Gurucul and its business partners worldwide. See a demo at the Black Hat USA Conference in booth #1568 and enter to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle. About Gurucul Gurucul is a global cyber security company that is changing the way organizations protect their most valuable assets, data and information from insider and external threats both on-premises and in the cloud. Gurucul’s real-time Cloud-Native Security Analytics and Operations Platform provides customers with Next Generation SIEM, Open XDR, UEBA, and Identity & Access Analytics in a unified platform. Prisma Cloud Delivers Context-Aware Software Composition Analysis to Secure Deployment of Open Source Software

Palo Alto Network | September 23, 2022

Open source software is a critical component of cloud-native applications, allowing developers greater speed and modularity without having to reinvent the wheel each time they code. However, as the Unit 42 Cloud Threat Report, 2H 2021 found, open source software can often contain known vulnerabilities, which can open organizations up to significant risk. Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW), the global cybersecurity leader, today introduced the industry's first context-aware software composition analysis (SCA) solution to help developers safely use open source software components. The integration of SCA into Prisma® Cloud further demonstrates why Palo Alto Networks is the leading provider of cloud-native security. Traditional SCA solutions are standalone products that can produce a large number of alerts but lack the runtime context to help fix vulnerabilities. With the addition of SCA to the Prisma Cloud platform, developers and security teams can proactively surface and prioritize known vulnerabilities that impact the application lifecycle (i.e., code, build, deploy and run). Prisma Cloud SCA delivers deep dependency detection and remediation of vulnerabilities in open source software before applications reach production. It can also help developers prioritize remediation based on software components that are already in use. These capabilities are not possible when SCA solutions are deployed as single point products. "Developers leveraging open source software should be able to build applications with the confidence they aren't opening the organization up to risk, With the average application consisting of 75% open source components, SCA on Prisma Cloud is key to protecting the organization from code to cloud and empowering developers to build with speed." Ankur Shah, senior vice president, Prisma Cloud, Palo Alto Networks As a complete cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP), Prisma Cloud is context-aware at every stage of the application lifecycle to provide a unified view of risk across organizations' cloud environments. Where current approaches to cloud security rely on siloed products that provide intermittent visibility without remediation, Prisma Cloud approaches cloud security with a comprehensive, prevention-first framework. With 188% increase in cloud incident response cases over the past three years, this shift in approach has become mandatory. A complete code-to cloud CNAPP needs to incorporate the following five key principles in order to keep organizations safe: Security from code to cloud — protects applications at every stage of the development lifecycle — from code, build, deploy and run. Continuous, real time visibility — uses real-time and contextual security analysis of cloud environments to help prevent misconfigurations, vulnerabilities and threats. Prevention-first protection — stopping attacks and defending against zero-day vulnerabilities to drive down mean time to remediation. Choice for every cloud journey — aligning security needs with current and future cloud priorities by supporting a breadth of cloud service providers, workload architectures, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, integrated development environments (IDEs), and repositories with a unified platform Cloud scale security — consistently secures applications as cloud environments scale. In addition to SCA and to further increase the safety of cloud-native applications, Prisma Cloud introduced a software bill of materials (SBOM) among other capabilities for developers to easily maintain and reference a complete codebase inventory of every application component used across cloud environments. Implementing SCA and SBOM ensures Prisma Cloud aligns with these principles. "Buyers looking for cloud-native security solutions need to keep the requirements of microservices security protection in mind. The 'bolted-on' and 'whack-a-mole' approaches are a thing of the past," said Frank Dickson, program vice president, Security and Trust at IDC. "Security should be embedded throughout the application development life cycle. This means that buyers need to fundamentally change their approach to security, although they need to continue to protect their run-time environments, they must also embrace solutions that embed security in the application development process, an approach referred to as 'shift left.' Shift left requires one to think less about security products and more about continuous security processes." About Palo Alto Networks Palo Alto Networks is the world's cybersecurity leader. We innovate to outpace cyberthreats, so organizations can embrace technology with confidence. We provide next-gen cybersecurity to thousands of customers globally, across all sectors. Our best-in-class cybersecurity platforms and services are backed by industry-leading threat intelligence and strengthened by state-of-the-art automation. Whether deploying our products to enable the Zero Trust Enterprise, responding to a security incident, or partnering to deliver better security outcomes through a world-class partner ecosystem, we're committed to helping ensure each day is safer than the one before.
