Alibaba Group expands outside mainland with Hong Kong cloud datacentre

Alibaba Group opened a cloud computing datacentre in Hong Kong Monday, marking its first significant expansion outside of mainland China. The move comes as the company looks set to unleash one of the most highly valued technology IPOs in history.The company said its Hong Kong datacentre, which was built in conjunction with local telecoms company Towngas Telecoms, will host the company’s cloud platform (AliCloud). The move follows plans announced in March this year to expand its cloud computing business.
