IBM announces $1.2bn investment in new cloud datacentres

In a bid to grow fast and quick IBM announced Friday that it plans to inject $1.2bn into a new global network of datacentres to run its portfolio of cloud-based services in 13 countries. IBM’s senior vice president of global technology services Erich Clementi said the new datacentres will be tuned to run private and public sector mission-critical workloads.Less than a year after IBM paid $2bn for infrastructure as a services provider SoftLayer the company announced it is injecting a further $1.2bn to expand the company’s footprint in 13 countries. IBM plans to build out 15 new datacentres in Washington D.C., Hong Kong, London, Toronto, Japan, India, China, Canada, Mexico and Dallas, bringing its global datacentre count to 40.
