4 Ways Edge Computing Changes Cloud Utilization
blog article
Life is more exciting on the edge. So, too, is IT infrastructure.Having more compute power on the edge of the cloud is changing how Internet of Things (IoT) devices and applications work as systems. Edge devices still need to interact with central cloud systems, however, or edge has no meaning. Edge computing is not about cutting the connection to the cloud.I think of the difference using the analogy of how a plane is piloted. A plane has many sensors, and those sensors send data to a variety of destinations, such as the airline and the parts manufacturer for each device in the plane. Most of the time, the plane flies without problems, and there’s no pressing need to communicate with the central services. Problems that do come up are accompanied by known protocols for resolving them that the plane’s computers and pilots handle locally. This is the equivalent of edge computing: handling the routine.
